Australian Open 2020 Betting: Back Roger Federer for Glory

The first major of the tennis season is almost upon us with Melbourne gearing up for the Australian Open, which gets underway in a matter of days. For those of you interested in making a wager on the tournament we’d recommend making a move on the tennis odds offered on Roger Federer coming out triumphant.

The 38-year-old Swiss star is still ranked highly, number three presently, and is a smart long odds bet that makes him more enticing than backing the likes of Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.

Federer is a six-time Australian Open winner, his first coming way back in 2004 and his last being 2018 and his odds of +900 are very tempting, with the likes of Djovkovic being the big favorite +155 and Nadal at +360.

Last season Federer didn’t get past the fourth round but did pick up four titles over the course of the year, with wins secured in Dubai, Miami, Halle and his native Switzerland.

The veteran champion also came painfully close to winning at Wimbledon but lost out after a five-set marathon against Djovkovic and there is certainly life in a player and winning the Australian Open is certainly not as fanciful as the odds would suggest.

Another plus in Federer’s column is the fact that he didn’t appear for Switzerland in the ATP Cup, meaning he should be fresher than both his main rivals Djokovic and Nadal who represent Serbia and Spain respectively in the tournament, that also takes place in Australia this month.

Some however may feel that the lack of action could go against Federer but he’s a player who clearly is capable of making an impact in any of the major tournaments in 2020 and a great player to put your dollar behind.
