Chelsea Place Arsenal Striker Top of Striker Shopping List
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is reportedly looking to add to his attacking options over the summer and has placed Arsenal’s in-form Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at the top of his wish-list.
Aubameyang has proven a massive hit since moving to the English capital from Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund in January 2018 but the Gabon international may feel that his current employers can’t match his obvious ambitions.
Before the coronavirus outbreak brought a half to the soccer season Arsenal were sat way down in ninth spot in the table and had crashed out of the Europa League to Olympiakos and as such have no obvious route to the Champions League for next term.
Chelsea on the other hand have had a solid enough campaign and should the season be completed the Blues will have Champions League action to offer Aubameyang and no doubt could no doubt meet any wage demands he may well have.
Arsenal will have to consider their options given that Aubameyang has just a year to run on his current contract.
Aubameyang has netted 49 goals from 75 Premier League appearances and could well provide Lampard an alternative to his main two options up front, those coming in the form of Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud.
Abraham has impressed in spells this season but in the latter stages of the season he was showing the signs of being under pressure from the rigours of being Chelsea’s main goal-scoring outlet.
As well as targeting the Gunners ace Chelsea are also said to be keen on Lyon’s former Celtic forward Moussa Dembele and Red Bull Leipzig’s Timo Werner though arguably a move for Aubameyang, with his proven Premier League experience, could prove the most sensible of the options on Lampard’s list.
