eSports: Wolves Winger beats Liverpool Star in ePremier League FIFA 20 Tournament

Wolves attacker Diogo Jota overcame Liverpool full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold in the final of the ePremier League invitational tournament this weekend, bringing an end to the charity fund-raising event.

Jota edged past his Premier League rival in their FIFA20 clash, scoring a golden goal to beat the youngster in a closely fought final.

Alexander-Arnold’s Liverpool side took the lead through Gini Wijnaldum’s header but Jota leveled when Wolves scored through wide-man Adama Traore.

Though both players had plenty of chances to win the game in normal time, the final went to extra-time.

Jota secured the win when Mexico international Raul Jimenez scored the golden goal that decided the game and the contest.

A host of Premier League sides took part in the tournament that was also screened live on TV, with the likes of Man City’s Raheem Sterling and Crystal Palace speedster Wilfried Zaha being among the big names on show.

Jota had beaten Burnley’s Dwight McNeil 4-1 in his semi-final whereas Alexander-Arnold narrowly beat Sterling in the other semi-final clash, 3-2.

The tournament once again highlighted the growing interest in eSports activity during the hiatus caused by the outbreak of coronavirus, which has seen all major sporting action grinding to a halt.

Indeed some US states have legalized sports betting activity on a number of eSports events as the industry seeks to offer an alternative to the lack of traditional betting options.

There has been some talk of European soccer coming back in the coming weeks with the Bundesliga potentially getting back underway in mid-May though it’s worth noting that the top tier’s in both Holland and Belgium have declared their seasons null and void.
