Khabib Nurmagomedov Laughs Off Conor McGregor Rematch Speculation

Though the UFC organization would love to see a rematch between reigning lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and Irish star Conor McGregor, and wouldn’t we all, it appears that such an encounter is almost dead in the water.

In a recent press conference Nurmagomedov made it abundantly clear that he doesn’t have much of an interest in having a second go at McGregor, having beaten the Dubliner in April 2018.

On the subject of a possible rematch he stated, in no uncertain terms;

“Why do I need that kind of money?” Khabib said … “There are so many organizations. For example, there’s not only [soccer] for the blind, there’s sambo and other sports.”

“Let [the UFC] give it to them if they don’t know what to do with the money. But giving me $100 million for me to beat up that idiot again? I don’t think that’s rational.”

However, as we all know, fighters of any discipline have a penchant for changing their minds when the big sums are offered, after all, money talks.

Conor McGregor is of course back in the UFC game having defeated Donald ‘The Cowboy’ Cerrone, last month in his first fight since his defeat at the hands of Khabib Nurmagomedov and is no doubt very much interested in trying his luck against the Dagestan born fighter.

Clearly such a fight would be a massive event in the UFC world and if put together it’s likely that public interest in the clash would exceed the astounding 2.4m people who watched via pay per view channels.

This is very much a case of wait and see as in the UFC world rematches are it’s life blood and old scores tend to get settled in the Octagon.
