MLB 2020: The Highest Earners for the Coming Season
It’s fair to say that sporting stars at the highest level have always been considered well paid but it’s common for the top talents in the field of baseball to lead the way when it comes to truly astonishing salaries and for the coming season this is clear for all to see.
The 2020 season gets underway soon, March 26th being the start date, and details of the numbers the top earners are taking home is a sight to behold.
Tied in fourth place in the list of highest earners are Colorado Rockies’ third baseman Nolan Arenado, Washington Nationals’ pitcher Stephen Strasburg and Houston Astros star Zack Greinke, all of whom take home a 2020 salary of $35m.
Out in third spot is another player on the Nationals’ roster, Max Scherzer who, like Strasburg, is a free agent at the end of the 2021 season, and he is paid a massive $35.9m.
In second spot we have New York Yankees pitcher supreme Gerrit Cole, who overcame Nolan Roux’s long-standing strikeout record of 315, racing to 326 as he helped the Astros to a World Series runners-up spot.
Cole earns a sweet $36m a year for his endeavors.
So who is the top earner? Who ranks ahead of the bunch for the 2020 season?
Number one spot goes to centre fielder and three time American League MVP Mike Trout, who is in the first throes of a 12 year deal worth an amazing $426.5m, which works out at $37.67m a season.
The Los Angeles Angels will hope that this payout will help reap rewards as they chase a first World Series win since 2002.
Their last divisional title came in 2014 and it’s worth noting they are fairly low down in the World Series outright betting, at +3000 with MyBookie, around eighth or ninth favorite for the coveted crown.
