NBA News: Luka Doncic Close to Recovery from Ankle Injury
It’s been all the talk of the NBA of late but by all accounts Dallas Mavericks star Luka Dončić is nearing a complete recovery from a sprained ankle that many feared could rule the Slovenian out for weeks.
Mavs’ coach Rick Carlisle is confident his top performer will be back soon and is progressing well but did not travel with his teammates to Milwaukee, deciding instead to stay behind to work with the side’s medical staff.
Dončić hurt his ankle during the Mavericks’ 122-188 defeat to the Miami Heat after he stepped on the foot of Heat guard Kendrick Nunn.
Dončić was voted the 2018-19 rookie of the year and averages almost 30 points per game and is considered a possible MVP this season.
Dallas are currently 18-8 in the Southwest division and third overall in the Western Conference, two games back from the Clippers and six off leaders the Lakers and could be a decent outside NBA playoff bet.
Of their 26 games thus far Dončić has finished as the Dallas Mavericks’ high-point scorer on 20 occasions, such is the 20-year-old’s level of consistency and shows just how crucial the young player has become for the American Airlines Center hero.
In terms of the overall NBA betting Dončić is second favorite to win the NBA regular season MVP while the Mavericks’ are some way behind the favorites, which include the Lakers, Clippers, Milwaukee Bucks and the Philadelphia 76ers.
Meanwhile Ja Morant is a massive favorite to become the NBA rookie of the year with the Memphis Grizzlies star having a superb regular season thus far.
