Real Madrid Line Up $74m Erling Haaland Transfer as Zidane Seeks to Improve Attack

La Liga giants Real Madrid are readying a summer transfer for Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Haaland despite the Norwegian having only moved to the German side three months ago.

Zinedine Zidane has seen his effective attacking options reduce over the course of the past season with new signings Luka Jovic seemingly not being a player that the French boss values all that highly.

Added to the lack of an out and out striking option to challenge veteran Karim Benzema, Zidane has also seen big money signing Eden Hazard ruled out for massive chunks of the 2019/2020 season through injury, and therefore big summer plans to improve the Real Madrid squad aren’t too surprising.

Dortmund brought in Haaland in a deal for just $22m due to the teenage forward’s transfer release clause from Red Bull Salzburg, and since the towering goal-machine moved to Germany he hasn’t looked back.

Haaland has bagged an incredible 12 goals in 11 appearances, that comes off the back of 28 goals in 22 matches for Salzburg this term. The 19-year-old is without doubt one of the most sought after transfer targets in the world.

By all accounts it would take an offer of around $74m to trigger Haaland’s current transfer release clause, a deal that is well within Real Madrid’s transfer budget though one imagines a bunch of other sides will also be feverishly targeting the lethal finisher.

Real Madrid sit second in La Liga but noticeably while their back-line has been very effective they are being significantly outscored by arch-rivals Barcelona.
