Tottenham Star Confronts Fan Following Abuse After Norwich City Defeat
Tottenham and England midfielder Eric Dier jumped into the crowd to confront a supporter following his side’s defeat to Norwich City in the FA Cup Fifth Round encounter.
The 26-year-old battler took offence to comments made by a fan, who’s allegiance is not yet known, who was stood nearby Dier’s brother in the neutral area of the Tottenham Stadium, he then climbed over a number of rows of seating and was eventually held back by stewards who were attempting to defuse the situation.
Jose Mourinho’s side took the lead in the 13th minute through defender Jan Vertonghen but failed to extend their lead and this allowed the Canaries to equalize through Josip Drmic.
The cup tie then went to extra time and penalties and it had initially looked as if the north London side would progress as Kenny McLean missed the first spot-kick. However Erik Lamela then hit the bar with his penalty and Dutch keeper Tim Krul saved from both Troy Parrott and Gedson Fernandes.
Tim Krul then ran the length of the pitch to celebrate with the 9000 traveling Norwich City fans as they booked passage to the FA Cup last eight for the first time since 1992.
It’s unclear whether Dier will receive a punishment for his behavior but a ban of some sort seems very likely.
The win for Norwich City comes after they picked up a much needed win against Leicester City over the weekend and now Daniel Farke’s side have an outside shot of beating the best Premier League odds to complete what would be a famous recovery from relegation.
