Barcelona Set for Massive Fire Sale Due to Coronavirus Outbreak
Barcelona are ready to offload a number of their top players in order to make up for the massive losses they expect to make due to the ongoing situation caused by the coronavirus outbreak that has rocked the sporting world.
Multiple sources believe that only a handful of top talents are safe from a cull that could be needed in order to balance the books at the Nou Camp, with Lionel Messi, Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Frenkie de Jong being safe from the situation.
Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu believes that the transfer market will see a lot of action but that most of what takes place will involve player swaps as soccer clubs look to take on board serious losses due to the suspension of a league season that could, in theory, not be completed.
The list of players who could be set to leave the Catalan club grows by the day and includes the likes of Ivan Rakitic, Philippe Coutinho, Samuel Umtiti, Ousmane Dembele, Arturo Vidal and Rafinha.
There is also speculation that moves to bring in Neymar will continue over the summer but will almost certainly involve some of the massive fee to sign back the PSG star being covered by a player or two.
Barcelona currently lead the La Liga table from Real Madrid by two points and were set for a second leg encounter with Napoli in the last 16 of the Champions League, when the entire sporting calendar was put on hold some six weeks ago.
