Chelsea Complete $55m Deal to Sign Goal Machine Timo Werner

Stamford Bridge boss Frank Lampard has moved into the transfer market to pick up hugely talented forward Timo Werner for a relatively cheap sum of $55m.

The 24-year-old had a very affordable transfer release clause and has elected to move to the West London club, who will no doubt be keen to see the German international beef up their attacking options.

Werner moved to Red Bull in 2016 and has seen the cash-backed club progress into a real force in the German top tier but clearly the former Stuttgart man felt the time was right to pursue new goals and will certainly be on a very high salary when it gets started at Chelsea in 2020-21.

The intelligent attacker has bagged 32 goals in all competitions this season and a total of 93 goals from 158 appearances for Red Bull Salzburg.

Lampard will hope that Werner, along with fellow forwards Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud, will help to push Chelsea into a genuine title push next season but first has the small matter of making sure that Champions League football will be secured this season.

Chelsea sit in fourth spot currently and given that Manchester City are currently banned from Champions League action for next season, pending an appeal, Lampard will be confident of securing that goal.

Werner must now finish the Bundesliga campaign with Red Bull before moving to London and it looks certain that Salzburg will have Champions League football to look forward to next season, though a title triumph has been held off by the ever dominant Bayern Munich.
