MLS News: Inter Miami Target Real Madrid star Luka Modric

David Beckham fronted side Inter Miami CF have set their sights very high indeed with the newly created MLS franchise looking to lure Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric to Florida this summer.

The vastly experienced Croatian international, who guided his nation to the 2018 World Cup final, is very much on the Inter Miami radar and some reports suggest that Real Madrid will allow Modric to make up his own mind on a potential move to the MLS.

The 34-year-old former Tottenham man has one year left on his current Bernabeu contract and it’s suggested that Zinedine Zidane already has a replacement lined up in the form of loaned out youngster Martin Odegaard.

Modric moved to the Spanish capital in 2012 and has been hugely influential at Real, being a key part of a side that has won four Champions League titles since his arrival. He has played 332 times for the club but is by no means a nailed on starter any longer.

Inter Miami were touted as a side who could entice big talents from Europe but as it turned out, ahead of their first season in the American top flight the club didn’t sign any big name players for the current campaign.

Manager Diego Alonso did manage to snap up Argentine pair Julian Carranza and Matias Pellegrini but that didn’t prevent their opening weekend defeat to Los Angeles FC, who won 1-0 thanks to a goal from Mexican international Carlos Vela.

It appears that Inter Miami will struggle in their debut season and as such moves to bring in top players makes a great deal of sense though one wonders if the club has the pulling power many perceive them to have.
