NBA Restart: Details for Completion of 2019/20 Season Revealed

The NBA season looks set to restart on July 31st and details of how the remainder of the 2019/20 championship campaign will be completed have been released.

By all accounts the season will close with NBA finals starting in late September, with all remaining matches taking place at Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

22 teams will take part in the rest of the season, made up of the 16 teams already in the playoff spots and the remaining six berths going to the next closest teams.

Aug 18 First Round

Teams will play exhibition games before the regular season restarts and even if any players test positive for the coronavirus, the season will continue. Those who test positive will be quarantined for seven days.

It is believed that if a NBA team loses a player due to a positive test then they will be able to sign a replacement player though those players will likely have had to be part of a training camp prior to the start of the season.

There will be a ‘transaction window’ during which teams are permitted to sign replacement players and this will feature all 30 teams, and not just the 22 who are taking part in the new format.

The NBA draft is now scheduled to take place on October 15th and an official start date for the 2020/21 season is yet to be formally approved though many expect this to be penciled in for around late December.
